Sunday, October 9: Arrival in Arizona

 

Depart Kansas City International Airport (or home airport) to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (timing to be announced)

  • Private tour bus will be waiting at Phoenix Airport to transfer everyone to Sedona
  • Everyone will see Sedona aboard our bus during a brief Panorama Tour with photo stops at viewing areas
  • Time in Uptown Sedona to browse and shop at the unique collection of shops and services
  • Lunch on your own in Uptown Sedona

 

Afternoon: Arrival at our lodgings accommodations for 5 nights: Poco Diablo Resort

With its stunning location within Sedona, Poco Diablo Resort is owned by the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation. Nestled on the banks of the famed Oak Creek, Poco Diablo has 22 acres with 8 acres of beautiful landscaping, an executive 9-hole par 3 golf course, ponds, streams and fountains and green willows and tall pines. The resort also contains lighted tennis courts, heated outdoor pool and whirlpool, massage therapy and other spa services within its newly renovated on-site spa, a relaxing cocktail lounge with piano entertainment and fabulous dining.

 

Resort Amenities: Each guest will enjoy high-speed complimentary wireless internet in room, complimentary access to Poco Diablo’s tennis courts, 2 bottles of water per day, luxurious in-room guest robes and comfortable, spacious guest rooms. Couples will have king-size beds; singles sharing will receive rooms with two double beds. Green fees are reasonable and the course can be booked through the resort’s main desk. Spa services can also be reserved at the front desk.

 

Tonight: Welcome Dinner at Poco Diablo Resort with complimentary toasting drink of sparkling wine. Beverages with dinner include iced or hot teas, freshly brewed regular or decaf coffee and non-bottled water

 

(Note: Non-alcoholic beverages are always available; full cash bar will be set up to purchase additional drinks with dinner. Drinks and other incidentals can be charged to the room and paid for by the couple or individual.)

 

Monday, October 10: Red Rock Country Up Close!

 

Breakfast Buffet at Poco Diablo served starting at 7:00 to 9:00 a.m.

 

  • Exclusive Pink Jeep Tour exploring Coyote Canyon! Fun pink jeeps, each with an expert driver guide, will pick up at Poco Diablo to whisk us into the Red Rock Country for an immersive tour focusing on the geology of the rock formations, nature and wildlife in the area. Tour Length: 3 hours; light walking; everyone will enjoy the smaller group tours led by the Pink Jeep Tours guides who are locals, knowledgeable and enthusiastic about Sedona!
  • Lunch Included: During the tour everyone will enjoy a delicious Picnic Lunch amongst the splendor of the rocks!

 

Afternoon: LBTD will arrange transportation to a wonderful spot in Sedona: Tlaquepaque Arts & Crafts Village, a charmingly unique area depicting Old Mexico with 45 boutiques and art galleries and four restaurants

 

Tonight: Dinner at Poco Diablo Resort

(Cash bar will be set up to purchase drinks with dinner)

 

Tuesday, October 11: The Majesty of the Grand Canyon National Park!

Today we will see the glorious Grand Canyon National Park from many scenic vantage points along the East and South Rim as part of an immersive, comprehensive tour. Later in the day we will marvel as the sun sets on the South Rim and take pleasure in a lovely dinner at the historic El Tovar Hotel Restaurant!

Our private tour bus will take us first to Tusayan, the town just before the entrance to the Grand Canyon National Park. Here we will stop at the National Geographic Visitor Center and view a 30 minute IMAX film which will orientate you to the Grand Canyon.

 

Next, in small groups we will board jeeps for the Grand Deluxe Pink Jeep Tour for a total East Rim Drive experience! Stops include the famous Grand Canyon Village, Native American ruin sites and the Desert View Watchtower, designed by noted architect Mary Colter. Our knowledgeable guides, who are Certified Interpretive Guides, will explain the Grand Canyon’s geological and human history, as well as its indigenous fauna and flora. A boxed lunch with bottled water will also be provided.

 

Later Afternoon: Following our Pink Jeep Tour, we will re-enter the Grand Canyon National Park aboard our private bus and be dropped close to the Grand Canyon Village where you can browse through the historic buildings, take photos of the South Rim and shop the gift boutiques.

 

 

Evening: Dinner will be arranged at the famed El Tovar Hotel built in 1905 and where illustrious people such as President Theodore Roosevelt dined! Following our dinner we can stand on the hotel’s terrace or near the South Rim wall and be awestruck by the beauty of a Grand Canyon sunset!

 

Note: Light walking involved; WC facilities available during the Pink Jeep Tour

 

Later Evening: Transfer back to Poco Diablo Resort

 

Wednesday, October 12: Different Views of Sedona

 

Breakfast Buffet at Poco Diablo served starting at 7:00 to 9:00 a.m.

 

Today various activities will be offered including two Optional Tours:

  • Helicopter Tour – (Morning) A breathtaking aerial perspective deep into the Red Rock canyons! Lunch following at the Mesa Grill at the Sedona Airport
  • Vortex Tour – (Morning) Touch the Earth in a unique way in the company of a spiritual guide taking you to places of peace and tranquility
  • Ancient Ruins Tour with Pink Jeep – (Afternoon) Go more off-road with an expert driver guide to view mysterious and ancient cliff dwellings and rock art

 

Other activities on this day could include:

Tonight: Star Gazing Evening at Poco Diablo Resort!

 

We begin with an abundant Southwest-style Buffet Dinner dining on the Resort’s Terrace!

 

Following dinner a fabulous Star Gazing Program on the golf fairway

 

In 2014, Sedona was designated as the world’s eighth Dark Sky Community with its expansive celestial canopy. Noted astronomer, Dennis Young will join us for a special evening viewing exploding stars, galaxies, planets, star clusters, the moon and more via his custom-made telescope.

 

 

Thursday, October 13: More Canyon Views & Native American Culture

Late Morning & Afternoon: Optional Tour offered: Canyon Verde Railroad

Experience a unique journey along 20 miles of scenic views aboard a train with beautifully-restored cars. On this day the Canyon Verde Railroad offers their version of Oktoberfest with a German-style lunch at the Railroad Café and beer tastings aboard the train! Optional Tour will include a voucher for the German lunch or for other sandwiches/salads at the Canyon Verde Railroad Café.

 

Tonight: Spectacular Native American Cultural Entertainment and Grand Dinner Buffet!

 

We will dine al fresco at Poco Diablo Resort partaking in a delicious Barbeque Buffet!

 

Then, under the stars, enjoy an hour-long program featuring Yellow Bird Productions. Internationally renowned Yellow Bird Productions, under the direction of Ken Duncan, member of the San Carlos Apache Tribe specialize in presentations celebrating the unique spirit of the American Indian. Our program will include their award-winning dancers doing the traditional Hoop Dance, Storytelling and closing with a Native American prayer.

 

Friday, October 14: Departure Day

Following breakfast and check out, a private bus will take us to the Phoenix Airport for our flight back to Kansas City (or your home airport)

Lisa Ball Travel Design and the staff at Poco Diablo Resort will help with other activities while in Sedona: hiking, bike rental, golf, horseback riding, hot air balloon rides, spiritual guide appointments (i.e. aura photos and psyche readings), shopping and art gallery stops

 

Deposits and Payments: A deposit of $300 per person will secure your spot on this tour due immediately at sign-up; your deposit will be applied to the base tour cost. LBTD will take monthly payments following the deposit. Whenever sign up for the tour occurs, the $300 per person deposit will be due along with any monthly payments past due.

 

Monthly payments can be made following this schedule:

March 15: $325 per person

April 15: $325 per person

May 15: $325 per person

June 15: $325 per person

July 15: $325 per person

August 15: $325 per person plus any purchased Optional Tours

Please note: PayPal charges a 3% transaction fee so you must increase your payment amount by 3% to cover this fee. A monthly payment of $325 needs to be $334.75 including the 3% transaction fee.

 

Travel Insurance: Please note: Tour costs do not include travel insurance as this cost is based on the traveler’s age. If you have a pre-existing health condition and you wish to obtain travel insurance, you must do so within two weeks of paying your deposit to LBTD. LBTD’s airfare expert, Deborah Mason is authorized to sell Travel Guard; her phone number is 816-453-7062. This is one source of reputable travel insurance. AAA Travel also sells travel insurance through Allianz.

 

Cancellation Policy: If you must cancel your participation with this tour please note August 1, 2016 is the tour cut-off date. Canceling before August 1, 2016, LBTD will cheerfully refund your deposit and any monies you have paid prior to this date. Canceling on August 1, 2016 or after, your deposit will automatically be retained. LBTD will try, as a courtesy to travelers, to reimburse other tour costs though this amount will depend on the cancelation date. There is no guarantee of a reimbursement. If you cancel the tour and you have purchased travel insurance, LBTD will work with your insurance company to provide the necessary paperwork so you can receive a reimbursement from the insurance company. Please note: there are some tour costs which affect the cost of others going on the trip and these costs are not refundable. This includes the ground transportation costs, hiring of guides, group meals, and sight-seeing venues where fixed, timed tickets have been purchased. Due to their specialty nature, there can be no refunds on Optional Tours. Optional Tours can be added last minute if there is room available on the tour.

 

Tour Documents: All participants must fill out a Personal ID form giving LBTD known information on your basic health condition, any known allergies, food/diet restrictions and your emergency contacts; and sign and date the Tour Waiver form. These documents are due to LBTD by July 1, 2016

 

Movie Night & Tour Meeting: We will gather for a fun movie night combined with tour information prior to departure. Sedona was famous as the setting for many Westerns and LBTD will select one of the best to show! This gathering will be a great way to meet and greet your fellow travelers!

 

Activity Level: Throughout the tour there will be some walking involved. It has been noted during the Pink Jeep Tours, for example light walking is involved though it is not strenuous. If you wish to do more vigorous hiking in the Sedona area, trail maps and information will be made available. We will be at elevations as high as 4,326 feet.
